My "Naughty Notions Challenge" Entry

I finally finished my entry for the "Naughty Notions" Challenge -- just one day before the deadline!

I used this pattern from {LBG} Studio that I bought a while ago.
The finished size is 10"x10.5" (26 cm x 28 cm).

For the flower brooch, I used this tutorial from V and Co. but I modified a bit by cutting the fabric twice the width of the flower size, folded it in half and then followed the tutorial. :)

The voting for this challenge will begin on February 1st and end at the end of the month.

Thank you Rikka @ Ricochet and Away and Keren @ Sew La Vie for hosting this fun challenge.

You can see other entries and inspiring clutches/bags by visiting the "Naughty Notions Challenge" board on Pinterest .

Thank you very much for your visit. I will work on my "Sparkle Quilt Along" next and post the update soon :).

Checking in...

Actually I do not have much to report in terms of sewing/crafting. I just finished cutting the fabrics I chose for the Sparkle Quilt Along.

I decided to go with the "mini quilt". This is the first time I am making the quilt top. I had a difficult time cutting the fabrics precisely with the rotary cutter and ruler. Any suggestion/tip my friends? Thank you very much in advance for your input. :)

I've also joined "Weigh In Wednesday" hosted by Erin @ Missy Mac Creations. The result for this week is not good but I just have to accept it.

Weigh In Wednesday

Weight Loss Goal: 10 kgs (-22lbs)
Week's Loss: -1.0kgs (2.20lbs)
Total Loss: -1.0kgs (2.20lbs)
Distance to Goal: 9.0kgs (19.80lbs)
Week's Gym Visits: 1 plus taking a visiting professor to shop and sightseeing
Total Time Exercising: Approx. 3 hours
Alcohol Units Consumed: None
Date of Last Alcoholic Drink: December 31st 2011
Highlight of the Week:  Still squeeze in an exercise even with a full schedule at work

I really like what Erin shares on her Wednesday Weigh In this week. I totally agree..it's all about our attitude..how you feel about yourself. If you are confident..it will show and people around you can feel that..so I just have to keep my head up..believe in myself and do not give up. :)

I just started to work on my "Naught Notions Challenge" last night but nothing to report on that yet...will post my progress soon I promise.

I hope all my blogging friends enjoy the rest of your week. Thank you very much for your visit and support. :)

My First Dancing Princess and featuring on Threading My Way

I finally got to put an embroidery hoop I bought ages ago from a Japanese discount store to a good use. Here is my first attempt on an embroidery project -- I call her "the January Princess" :)

Kate @ Lilipopo is hosting a sew along project where she offers 6 patterns of the dancing princess series with the idea that they are each made up in two different ways so you end up with twelve princesses.

I really enjoyed making my princess -- I decided to give the applique method as shown on Kate's blog a try.
I also used a plastic spoon technique found in Japanese Quilt books when I filled in the shoes. It helped picking up the needle really easy.

I used "Doodle Stitching" book as my helper. I think it is a good book for beginners with lots of project ideas and overall stitching techniques. You can read the reviews from Amazon. :)

Here are some projects in this book:

On another note, My Patchwork Tote bag has been featured on Threading My Way. Thank you very much Pam! :) I am truely honored.

Pam @ Treading My Way has hosted a great series "Threading Your Way with Threading My Way" where you can link up your projects throughout the year with different themes going on at the moment.
Head on over to check them out...they are filled with great inspiration.

My next task would be the Naughty Notion Challenge. I have some idea/design in my head..I just have to start making it. The challenge is still opened. If you feel like you need some motivation to start off the year..please feel free to join us. :)

Well, I have to get ready to work now. I do not like the idea of working on a Sunday..Thanks goodness this is only a one-week thing.

Thank you very much for stopping by! :) I am very sorry that my email responses have been late lately. I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.

A Little Update!

I finally finished the strawberry shortcake frame purse..yeah! Here it is:

I hope the future owner will like this purse I made. ^-^

Last Saturday I took a little break from finishing my assignment to attend a Tilda doll class
We made a little keychain. It was fun and I learned many techniques that I would not know if I only tried to do it on my own by reading from Tilda's books.
The teacher took many Tilda dolls making classes in Sweden. Here is what I made in the class.

Isn't she cute?? ^-^

Also I finally picked the fabrics I will be using for the "Sparkle Quilt Along". I use Jeni @ In Color Order's Art of Choosing Series as my helper. If you have a hard time choosing fabrics for your quilt, please check them out. :)

This week I hope to start working on the "Naughty Notions" Challenge and "Building the Houses from Scraps". I will keep you posted.

I really appreciate the encouragement from all of you. Thank you very much! :)

My 2012 Life- Sewing - Crafts Goals

I have been thinking about listing the goals for this year..but I think putting them in writing would be better ^-^.

O.K. Here they are:

1. Trying to balance between my full-time job, hobbies, and exercise!

I have to admit that I am not good at doing many things at the same time even though I know that women are good at multi-tasking ;).

2. I love Rebecca's Idea of having a Drama Free 2012 so this will be one of my goal.

3. I would become a better friend with my sewing machine. In the past, I tended to do hand sewing and quilting since these are the preferred trends in Thailand. I think machine sewing and quilting have their advantages too. I have to step out of my comfort zone and try new things - free motion quilting and machine applique are on the agenda.
To motivate myself to make my first quilt, I have signed up for the Sparkle Quilt Along with Jenni of In Color Order and Megan of Canoe Ridge Creations.

4. Try to challenge myself to learn new techniques

Here are what I have on my plate for now:

5. Try to sew some clothes with ready-made patterns

6. Write a post at least once a week and try to make a tutorial at least once a month

7. Always keep my sewing/working space organized

There..now I have them in writing!

And here is the report on my first sewing project of this year

I got a requested order to make another strawberry shortcake frame purse ^-^

I will try to finish it by the end of this week so I can ship it out by Monday.

Thank you very much for visiting my blog. I will post the update on my other projects soon. ^-^

Happy New Year 2012!! I'm back..Finally ^-^

First of all, I would like to wish all my blogging friends to have a year full of Joy, Hope and Happiness :)

I just came back from a road trip to the north eastern Thailand and Laos, and after I got back I had to catch up with work.

The trip was fun and interesting. My friends and I (5 persons total) left Bangkok on late December 27th night and got to Chiangkahn, a town in Leoy province the next morning. I really like this town. The locals are so friendly and they've tried to keep the architectures like the old days.

The Old Chiangkhan Hotel where my friends and I stayed - it is located right by the Khong River, the river that is on the boarder of Thailand and Laos

A little gift shop selling vintage souvenirs

After staying for one night, we headed to a small town called Vang Vieng, a small town that became a popular place for tourist due to its beautiful scenery - however, the inter-city road from Vientiane to Vang Vieng is quite rough -- it took us 6 hours on the road to go for about 180 kilometers
The next day we traveled to Luang Prabang -- again it took us a whole day on the road with many turns up and down the mountains

A group of girls dressed up in traditional tribal costumes :) -- taken on the way to Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site

We rent bikes to travel around the city

And did some shopping at the night market in the evening

I did finished knitting the scarf (I posted about this a while ago) during our ride to Laos.

My friends used the remaining yarns to knit  a matching hat for me :)
I hope I do not bore you too much with the story about my trip. :)

That's all of the highlights of my trip.

Thank you very much for stopping by. I will be back soon..hopefully to post about something I make.

Cheers! :)
